COURSE DESCRIPTION: APPROXIMATELY 8 MILE RUN WITH A 4,000 FT. ELEVATION GAIN, BEGINNING NEAR 6,000 FEET ELEVATION. THE FIRST QUARTER MILE IS PAVED ROADWAY FOLLOWED BY FIVE MILES OF STEEP NARROW DIRT ROADWAY. THE NEXT MILE, A NARROW "CATWALK" TRAIL HUGS THE MOUNTAIN SIDE. THE FINAL & STEEPEST IS ABOVE TIMBERLINE, FINISHING ATOP BEAUTIFUL MT. BALDY AT 10,064 FEET. (WALK BACK FROM SUMMIT TO NOTCH RESTAURANT. AID STATIONS ARE AVAILABLE APPROXIMATELY EVERY TWO MILES.

Please join us with Los Angeles County First District Supervisor, Gloria Molina, who will be our Honorary Race Chair and start the 5K Run/Walk races at this 12th Annual LA County Run for Health at Dockweiler Beach. With vendors, runners/walkers, family, friends, and outreach to over 100,000 County employees, the sooner you submit your sponsorship, the more opportunities we will have to advertise your organization on the event T-shirt, entry form, and all of our promotional materials. Your support is appreciated and will make a difference to young women at risk.
LA County Run for Health has grown into one of the most popular running events in Los Angeles County and raised over $260,000 from the proceeds of this event since its inception in 1999, benefiting at risk young women in overcoming hardships such as broken homes, economic poverty and violence plagued neighborhoods. In eleven years, we have provided $1,000 scholarships to 255 young women in the County who have pursued college, university, and/or nursing school higher education.
The Commission is continuously attempting to identify ways to promote healthy lifestyle for children and families in the community. We are collaborating with the County’s Parks and Recreation, Office of Women’s Health, Wellness Managers and Public Health Services to promote the County’s 2010 Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle initiative. We need to come together and take specific steps to achieve the challenge against childhood obesity, and encourage our children to make better lifestyle choices.

The fourth annual Catalina Eco Marathon, 10k, and 5k will be held on Nov. 13, 2010, it will showcase the very best of Catalina Island! The Catalina Eco Marathon will start and finish in the town of Avalon. Run over 20 miles of single track trails and ridgelines with views of the Pacific Ocean on both sides of the island.
